Position Description
Core to the work of Pearson International is excellence in information architecture. Information architecture benefits PI businesses by making content reusable through the application of standards; and "smart" by the use of metadata, taxonomies and semantic technologies.

An opportunity has arisen for an information architect to join the Content and Digital Management team responsible for this very busy and rapidly developing area. Reporting to the Director of Content Architecture, this individual will play a key role in the strategic architecture initiatives currently under way in PI. These include:
- Developing, documenting and helping to guide the appliance of information architecture standards in all Pearson International businesses, including descriptive metadata, structural metadata, taxonomy and ontology standards
- Working on new initiatives that use semantic technologies to increase the findability and reuse of content
- Designing and building taxonomies, ontologies, metadata schema and other information architecture products
- Working with a wide range of business stakeholders to advise, mentor and coach them towards best practice in information architecture.

Candidate Profile
Deep understanding of the complex challenges of information and knowledge management.

• Proven success incorporating Taxonomy and Metadata programs within a large enterprise organisation.

• Experience leading teams on taxonomy and metadata strategy projects

• Experience implementing industry taxonomy standards

• Experience implementing metadata standards such as Dublin Core

• Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources.

• Strong analytical skills – strong problem-solving skills, communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively
- Interest in open source content management systems such as Drupal, Alfresco, Joomla, or others.

• Working knowledge of Lucene, FAST, Google Search Appliance, and Autonomy IDOL Enterprise Search platforms.

• Experience adapting taxonomy and metadata models to enhance usability and weighted search results

• Knowledge of WC3 [sic] standards (RDF, SKOS, OWL, SPARQL)
• Strong leadership skills – ability to successfully lead enterprise initiatives with diverse project team members.
