Short Bio:

I have been in the television business for over 6 years working as a producer, a reporter and most recently, a Social Media Journalist. I'm not just the first Social Media Journalist at my station, but for my entire company.

My title, "Social Media Journalist", only became official about a year ago, but I have been the force behind the TV station's social media sites and overall audience-engagement strategy for about four years.

I manage our social media accounts, use our pages to generate story ideas as well as pass along leads we receive from our fans and followers to the rest of the team.

I'm required to stay on top of, as well as train and educate our staff about the latest social media tools, which includes public speaking engagements. I work with anchors, reporters and producers to find ways for them to incorporate social media or a story from our website into their stories or newscasts, this includes producing "web extras". I also manage all user-generated content we receive from our YouReporters (Citizen journalists).

I'm a newsroom employee, but you could consider what I do social media marketing. It is my responsibility to make sure our Facebook and Twitter users turn their televisions onto to NewsChannel 5 each day and night. I have several ways of bringing these platforms together that I have yet to see any other television station attempt when it comes to social media.

I'm also in front of the camera each night. I produce, write and shoot my own social media segment that airs during the 5:00 pm newscast. I also shoot, write, edit and report on social media related packages.
