CrowdFlower is changing the way work gets done, and we want you to help. Our technology platform takes large, data-heavy projects and breaks them into small tasks that are distributed to a multi-million-person, on-demand workforce around the world. Our technology then aggregates the results while performing continuous quality control, allowing us to deliver best-in-class results in record time.
We are growing fast and we need smart, innovative people, willing to work hard to help us cultivate the crowd and successfully mine human intelligence. Come work with our exceptional team in a large open office at 17th and Mission that boasts the largest collection of office plants this side of Market Street. Frankly, CrowdFlower is where the action is in San Francisco.
We offer an array of excellent benefits: company-paid medical, dental, vision and life insurance, a new MacBook Air (or Pro if you prefer), free snacks and drinks, foosball tables, and fun team events.
About the Job:
CrowdFlower is looking for a Technical CrowdSourcing Analyst to design and implement crowdsourced solutions to data-centric business problems. The ideal candidate is personable and patient, able to listen carefully and accurately assess technical requirements from general problem descriptions, and then translate those requirements into rock solid workflows and intuitive UIs that accept and emit precisely formatted data.
The Technical CrowdSourcing Analyst will work closely with Crowdflower Solutions Managers on the technical aspects of a variety of projects from beginning to end for a who’s-who roster of enterprise clients ranging from startups all the way to Fortune 100 companies. The Solution Managers will take care of most customer communications, so you can focus on delivering world-class results.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
- Planning and implementing scalable crowdsourcing workflows for large long-term data projects.
- Ensuring project success and output accuracy by performing regular result analyses, identifying fraudulent workers and implementing thoughtful quality-control/training techniques.
- Innovating on the front lines of worker satisfaction – working to improve their experience and recognizing system deficiencies for community managers and engineers to resolve.
- Packaging and presenting project results in an intelligent and thoughtful manner.
- Dreaming up and pitching new platform features for our product team.
We're a dynamic startup with numerous opportunities for growth. No matter what you do here, we will always welcome your ideas and solutions.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to support our team effort.
- Humor. You don’t mind it. You have a sense of it.
You should be comfortable working with people—phone, email, in-person—and able to listen and ask questions when appropriate. You're not afraid to jump in with a better solution if you have one, or work with other team members if you don't know the best approach.
Data handling and analysis:
You should feel comfortable working with large multi-dimensional datasets. You are the type of person who learns all of the keyboard shortcuts in Excel, but prefers to build their graphs in R.
HTML and CSS:
You are a blogger or a hacker or both, have built a few websites and have a solid grasp of HTML and CSS. You will be spending a lot of time creating web UIs in our own markup language, CML (CrowdFlower Markup Language).
You have some background in computer science and are too impatient to do something by hand, so you write a script in your language of choice to do the work while you grab lunch.
You are able to handle multiple projects and budget your time well in order to meet deadlines. We don't micromanage.
Eye for design:
You have a grasp of the basic tenets of design. Your UIs are not only efficient and functional, but also elegant and easy on eyes.
You write JS code that makes our Client Services Engineers blush.
Related degree or research experience:
You have an undergraduate or graduate degree in mathematics, statistics, social science, or other numeracy-related degree. You have served an integral role in an original research project. You have written or helped to write a scientific paper.
You have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of computer science, and are able to grasp the basics of new languages quickly.
