Description

 Position Summary 

The Software Developer is responsible for designing, implementing, developing, and maintaining multi-user web-enabled database-driven applications for in-house clinical, research, educational, and administrative activities. Ensures understanding of clinical laboratory workflows and will work under the guidance of the director of pathology informatics to effectively enable clinical work and research discovery by renowned leaders in their scientific and medical fields. 


Position Activities 

• Collects functional design requirements and leads physical and logical database design. 

• Creates prototypes for client engagements. 

• Designs, codes, and tests secure, reliable technical solutions. 

• Troubleshoots reported issues, precisely identifies root causes, and implement solutions. 

• Effectively documents/comments the generated source code and APIs and compose clear and complete instructions for the users. 

• Maintains source code and assets using a version control system. 

• Assists in establishment and meeting of development deadlines and schedules; develops internal and external meeting objectives and agendas; elicits and documents constructive feedback 

• Follows through with commitments and foster mutual trust with fellow employees. 

• Understands expectations that were set with client; recognize and communicate when issues/events may affect delivery.

• Accurately prepares written business correspondence that is coherent, grammatically correct, effective, professional and engaging 

• Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies. 

• Shares acquired skills with team members through formal and informal channels. 

 

 

Qualifications

 
Minimum Requirements 

• Bachelors of Science in Computer Science 

• Ability to develop secure, reliable, scalable applications 

• Knowledge of and experience in software development using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, XML, C, C++, Qt, Matlab. 

• Sufficient experience to maintain existing applications built using Java, JDBC and JSP, and to extend their functionality as needed. 

• Experience in writing multi-threaded highly concurrent code utilizing Matlab, OpenMP, CUDA, C++ AMP, MPI, or GPGPU. 

• Experience in writing effective stored procedures and readiness to write stored procedures in Sybase, MS SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL databases 

• Proficiency with generating optimal data structures and with physical and logical database design 

• Understanding of XML, XSL, RDF, Web Ontology Language (OWL) and being comfortable with Windows, Linux, Unix, OSX, iOS 

• Previous experience with implementing multi-user client/server technologies and working knowledge of system integration of web-based and native GUI front ends with relational databases. 

• Ability to perform listed duties, work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, follow through on work assignments, and meet project deadlines. 

• Interest in learning new technologies, platforms, algorithms, and methods. 

Highly Desired Requirements 

• Strong communication skills, being organized and detail-oriented, experience with Apache and IIS web servers and their configuration 

• Experience with configuration of Sybase, MS SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL databases, writing code in Python and R, building Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software 

• Experience with Apache Tomcat, SOAP/RESTful Web Services architecture and web APIs, Wordpress, Drupal, and Sharepoint, creating effective HTML5 and CSS3 web pages guided by responsive design principles 

• Knowledge of methods for data analysis, data mining, data visualization, statistical analysis, and machine learning 

• Experience with developing image analysis algorithms

• Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet project deadlines. 

• Understands the necessity of and adheres to coding standards.
