Job Summary:
* Provides cataloging, original and copy, for manuscript collections, rare books, university archives, oral histories, local documents, analytics, and other special materials as needed.
* Provides, maintains, and enhances metadata for digital materials.
* Provides leadership in developing new communications methods and workflow to handle questions related to original cataloging and authority work.
* Manipulates metadata to provide multiple access points for library resources.
* Develops and provides training to library staff regarding resource description and metadata management.
* Provides authority control and authority records as needed during the cataloging process.
* Resolves problems in areas related to expertise, both for support staff and in the online catalog and other discovery tools.
* Participates in the development, evaluation, and implementation of cataloging and metadata policies, standards, goals, procedures, and workflows.
* Develops review methods for records of all Special Collections materials and assists in implementation of reviews
* Oversees quality control for non-MARC metadata processes and projects as assigned.
* Maintains current knowledge of evolving cataloging and metadata standards and practices, like EAD and RDA, linked data, semantic web applications, ontologies, and RDF.
* Serves as resource for staff in other areas across the library in doing non-serial cataloging.
* Participates in professional activities and in library and university faculty governance.
* Supports and participates in other work of the department as assigned.
* Possibly supervise students and up to two SPA staff.
