Maintains supports and troubleshoots : iSeries / Unix issues in partnership with application owners. Administers security and actively participates in all System and application upgrades. Works as a member of a cross-functional, integrated application support team. Provides team leadership in coordinating the work of other system administrators. Trains and mentors other system administrators.
Leads migrations of Hardware and software enhancements and modifications performed by system administrators.
Ensures adherence to policies and procedures established by the application owners and/or SCDS.
Leads system administrators in the identification, research and application of all appropriate updates and fixes in coordination with the application owners and/or SCDS.
Complies with Fox's change control policies and procedures for all environments and instances.
Coordinates migration activities with other IT departments.
Actively participates in all Hardware, Software and application upgrades.
Executes upgrade activities and/or supervises the execution of upgrades under the direction of the application owners and in compliance with SCDS policies and procedures.
Remains current on vendors' standard support schedules and release cycles.
3. Production Support
Works closely with other system administrators, application developers and production support personnel to gain a thorough understanding of the architecture of the applications being supported.
Serves as an escalation point for bugs and other issues within IT where multiple IT disciplines may be necessary for resolution.
Leads system administrators in maintaining user security for all responsible environments and instances in coordination with the application owners and in compliance with access security policies and procedures.
Provides 24x7 on call production support.
Develops application support procedures in coordination with the application owners.
Works with other system administrators and application developers to continually improve application support levels and Fox's internal change control policies and procedures.
Participates as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
Trains and mentors new system administrators.
Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.
5. Departmental Responsibilities
Plans, schedules and performs proactive Hardware and OS maintenance, including firmware upgrades and patch installation.
Creates and executes CL programs for various backup, monitoring and job scheduling activities.
Install and configure Solaris using Jumpstart.
Install and configure RHEL and OEL using kickstart.
Provides support for production, staging, Q/A, D/R and development environments.
Maintains and monitors file systems.
Monitoring and maintenance of communication on iSeries, Unix and Linux iSeries systems.
Manage job scheduling including maintenance and operations.
Preventive maintenance of iSeries, Unix and Linux systems to ensure optimum performance levels.
Provide Tier 2 support to Helpdesk, Field Support group and Clients.
Perform database refresh on development systems.
Serves as an escalation point for iSeries, Unix and Linux issues within the user community.
Communicates status and issues to management on a regular basis.
Interfaces with vendors on a regular basis to resolve technical issues.
Works closely with other IT resources to provide pertinent information in support of application availability.
Acts as a technical point of contact with operation.
