Lead Backend Engineer at Funded NYC Tech Startup

Who are we?

Repunch is a customer loyalty platform for local retailers. We are a young (and funded) startup building mobile apps to replace those pesky "buy X get 1 free" paper punch/stamp cards. Our mission is to change the way retailers attract and retain loyal customers. We have an exciting lineup of retailers in select East Coast cities who are anxiously waiting to use our product.

Responsibilities

As the Lead Backend Engineer, you'll be tasked with architecting, building, deploying and maintaining all backend systems. We're looking for someone with experience doing exactly that. You'll have the freedom to define most of our stack, provided you offer compelling reasoning. Currently, we're using a backend-as-a-service (BaaS) product to run our apps. We're looking to replace that with our own in the very near future.

In addition, as one of our earliest hires (we are currently a team of 3) you will have considerate input on all things Repunch.

Location and Salary

Our office is located in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn. We offer a competitive package of salary and equity.

Required: 

• Proven experience building scalable and robust backend systems
• Fluent in either Javascript or Coffeescript
• Fluent in either Python/Django or Ruby/Ruby on Rails
• Expert database knowledge and SQL (or NoSQL) skills
• Other usual stack suspects - Redis/Memcached, MapReduce/Hadoop, etc.
• Git/Hg

Desirable: 

• Experience with HTML/CSS
• Experience with AWS
• Any iOS/Android development experience is a big plus

A degree in Computer Science or a related field is nice, but we're mostly interested in your skills and personality. We'd love to work with someone that is thoughtful and hard-working, but laid back. At Repunch we work hard and play hard.
